Data Engineer and Spatial Analyst (gn)

to join our Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) team. This role is crucial in managing, processing, and analyzing large datasets related to our global conservation efforts, supporting spatial data acquisition and remote sensing analysis. You will be responsible for designing and implementing robust data infrastructure, ensuring data quality, and facilitating the use of field-level data to inform FZS global data systems and decision-making processes.

Aufgaben

Your tasks

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data infrastructure for diverse conservation data sources.
  • Conduct spatial analysis of complex datasets, including remotely sensed data.
  • Develop and implement data analysis pipelines.
  • Create data storage solutions for structured and unstructured data, ensuring data quality and drafting SOPs.
  • Operationalize existing datasets for queries and retroactive analyses.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and ethical standards.
  • Develop ETL processes to integrate data from various sources.
  • Provide technical support for GIS and remote sensing data collection tools.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices in data engineering and remote sensing.
  • Provide training and documentation for end-users interacting with the data platform.

Anforderungen

Your profile

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in data engineering, preferably in conservation or environmental sciences, with a focus on GIS and remote sensing.
  • Proficiency in database management systems (SQL and NoSQL), ETL processes, and data integration.
  • Experience with big data technologies and cloud platforms.
  • Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, Java) for data manipulation and transformation, with knowledge of GIS tools such as ArcGIS or QGIS.
  • Knowledge of wildlife conservation issues and a commitment to environmental sustainability.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to remote field sites as needed.
