The mission of the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) as a nationally and internationally active research institute is to deliver solutions for an ecologically, economically and socially sustainable agriculture – together with society. ZALF is a member of the Leibniz Association and is located in Müncheberg (approx. 35 minutes by regional train from Berlin-Lichtenberg). It also maintains a research station with further locations in Dedelow and Paulinenaue.
The ZALF Research Group on “Impact Assessment” focusses on assessing the sustainability impacts of agricultural management options across temporal and spatial scales. It develops tools and indicators for scenario building, literature-based and stakeholder-based ex-ante assessments, and applies them in selected case studies. The group will contribute to the project “Supporting Agroecological Transitions of Agroforestry Landscapes using an Innovative Transdisciplinary Assessment Framework (AGRECO4CAST)”, funded und the 1st EU-Agroecology call. AGRECO4CAST will develop a toolbox of model-based and stakeholder based assessment tools, and apply it to assess impacts of agroecological transition pathways in agroforestry Living Labs (LL) across Europe.
We are offering a 60% part time position (24 hours per week) temporarily limited for 3 years at our location in Müncheberg, subject to final confirmation by the funding organization and starting from 01.05.2025, as

Your tasks:
- Design the participatory assessment tools for the AGRECO4CAST toolbox and contribute to its applications in the case study regions in collaboration with the project partners
- Coordinate the analysis of regional, national and European policies that affect agroecological transition pathways and associated business models in the case study regions
- Support the co-development of agroecological transition scenarios, of digital round tables, and of an adapted AI chatbot

Your qualifications:
Required:
- PhD in agricultural- or horticultural sciences, or related discipline, preferably with a socio-economic focus
- Hands-on experience organizing workshops with farming, value chain, NGO and policy stakeholders
- Hands-on experience in conducting participatory ex-ante impact assessments
- Well-versed with stakeholder-based tools for scenario building and impact assessments
- Experience in interdisciplinary work at the interface between natural and social sciences
Desirable:
- Expertise with regard to sustainable soil management and of the role of soils for sustainable development
- Expertise with ecosystem services assessments
- as an internationally research institution, located in Germany we require good to very good written and spoken English skills and the willingness to take part in further training as part of the language courses in German offered internally
